Go nuts in Ohio with Buckeye nuts! The Buckeye Tree, Aesculus glabra, is native primarily to the Midwestern and lower Great Plains regions of the United States. The tree grows Buckeye nuts, sometimes referred to as horse chestnuts. We wouldnt get too excited though, because you really cant do much with these nuts, except dry them out and string them together on a necklace. We wouldnt recommend eating them, because theyre full of tannic acid thats poisonous to humans. Unfortunately, the Ohio states nuts are really nothing to brag about. Theyre not edible and you really cant do anything interesting with them. Theyre just part of the state tree though, and thankfully, Ohio isnt known for its export of fabulous nuts.
